Description
The Foyle Young Poets Award is one of the most prestigious and largest international poetry competitions for young people aged 11 to 17. Run by The Poetry Society in partnership with the Foyle Foundation, the free-to-enter contest recognizes 100 outstanding poets each year, providing significant opportunities to develop their craft. Submissions are read anonymously by a panel of established, prize-winning poets. The judges read thousands of entries to select the 100 winners. The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award is widely recognized for launching the careers of many notable poets. Alumni have gone on to publish with major houses and win prestigious awards
Requirements
Poets can submit any number of poems, on any theme and in any style, as long as each poem is no longer than 40 lines. All submissions must be original, unpublished, and not have won any other competition.

Outcomes
The 100 winning poets are divided into two categories: 15 top winners and 85 commended poets. Prizes include mentoring, publication, performance opportunities, membership in the society, etc.
