Brief description
A multi-genre virtual session that seeks to create a strong community of engaged writers and explore differing forms, inventive language and creative ideas, through writing — the focus being on the generation of new imaginative works.
Full description
This workshop encourages both students and the workshop leader to write together across multiple genres, including essays, poetry, fiction, drama, memoir, and experimental or hybrid forms. Participants read and respond to each other’s work, offering constructive feedback while drawing inspiration from fellow writers, literature, and various artistic disciplines. The program emphasizes the idea that all genres involve creativity, that writing fosters deeper thinking, and that being part of a writing community is a valuable and transformative experience—especially for young writers, but also for writers at any stage. Rather than focusing on “fixing” a writer’s work, as some programs do, this workshop prioritizes exploration, generating new material, thoughtful revision, and providing descriptive, meaningful feedback to support each writer’s growth. The schedule is two 90-minute sessions per day plus access to an asynchronous workshop, with a final two-hour session on our last day.
