Full description
The program involves participation in workshops and writing craft classes aimed at producing original fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry. Students are required to complete assignments, including one short story, a work of creative nonfiction or drama, and three poems, all contributing to the development of a portfolio of creative work. Daily reading assignments will focus on understanding the "architecture" of published pieces and how they are constructed. Students will also have the opportunity to tour the Southern Humanities Review, a renowned literary journal, to learn about the editorial process and the daily tasks of its editors. Writing activities are designed to immerse students in Auburn, known as "the loveliest city on the plains," offering lively literary tours around the town. Additionally, special guest speakers will be featured throughout the program.
